FAQuestions
New citations' format
 |
Does myFavorites
store pictures in its data files? |
No, in order to minimize the size of your database file, myFavorites only stores
the formatted HTML text- since graphics on Web sites is much "heavier"
than the text. The pictures in the citations are loaded from the
Internet if your computer is on-line, or from the local cache.
 |
When editing a citation, I copied some more text from the web page and pasted it
to the citation I was editing. Why did the links in the pasted text become unclickable? |
When you add a citation to myFavorites in the recommended way,
myFavorites automatically converts all relative links to absolute
links, since myFavorites knows the address of the original site
from which the citation is taken. When you add text by using copy
and paste, myFavorites cannot convert links, because it does not
know the address of the original site. To preserve links in citations,
add citations to myFavorites by using the "Add to myFavorites 2
" command from the context menu.
 |
Why sometimes citations in myFavorites look different than the same text on the original Web page? |
Some pages are formatted with the help of Cascading Style Sheets (CSS), which
are usually stored as separate files. myFavorites does not examine
CSS files; thus, the default formatting, such as font size and face,
can be used in such cases, which makes the citations look different
than the originals.
Adding favorites
 |
Can I grab a link? |
Yes. If your click a link with the right mouse button and choose
the "Add to myFavorites 2" command, the link, but not the page's
URL, will be added to your collection. Also, if your click a picture
with the right mouse button and choose the "Add to myFavorites 2"
command, the picture's URL will be added as a link to your collection.
 |
Why, after I have chosen the command "Add to myFavorites 2",
there is a little delay before the dialog box with the citation editor appears? |
When adding a citation, myFavorites preprocesses the citation in
order to adapt it for storage in the database file. Preprocessing
includes conversion of links and removal of java script-related
attributes which loose their meaning without the original Web page.
If you are adding a big citation with complex HTML code, preprocessing
requires noticeable time.
File operation
 |
At what moment my changes in the database will be saved to the disk?
|
All your changes to the database are saved immediately in the current database
file.
 |
When a branch is saved by the "Export branch" command, in what
format is it saved? |
This command saves the selected branch as a separate database.
 |
Can I import a whole database by using the "Import branch" command? |
Yes. Since both a branch and a whole database have identical formats, a whole
database can also be imported by the "Import branch" command. The data from the
imported file will be added as a folder to the current database.
 |
Why, when myFavorites
is running, double- clicking an .mfr file doesn't open this file,
but only brings myFavorites window to top? |
Just like most other applications working with centralized data,
such as Outlook Express, myFavorites works in the "Single Instance"
mode. This mode allows to open only one application window at a
time. When a file is double-clicked, the application does not receive
the event from Microsoft Internet Explorer. In this case, Internet
Explorer performs its standard operation, and brings the myFavorites
window on top.
 |
I dragged a link to the myFavorites window in order to add a new
citation to the database, but instead the contents of the Web page addressed
by the link was displayed. Why? |
Since myFavorites runs in the Internet Explorer environment and
myFavorites window is indeed an Internet Explorer window, it is
natural that myFavorites is replaced by the contents of the new
Web page. myFavorites cannot control such behavior of Internet Explorer.
Please use the recommended way to add citations.
 |
Why dragging an .mfr file to the myFavorites window does not open the file,
but displays its contents in the window? |
myFavorites does not support dragging files from other applications.
Since myFavorites runs in the Internet Explorer environment and myFavorites
window is indeed an Internet Explorer window, it is natural that myFavorites
is replaced by the contents of the .mfr file. To open an .mfr file, just double
click it with the mouse.
Organizing favorites
 |
Can I make any selections
in the list of favorites? |
Yes. If you hold down the Control key and click with the mouse
any items on the list, these items will be selected. Same selection
can contain both single favorites and folders.
 |
Can I drag any selection of favorites and folders to a different folder? |
Yes. You can perform any operation (copy, move, drag, delete, preview, print,
etc.) with any selection of favorites and folders.
 |
Can I select all items in a folder with a single click of a mouse? |
Yes. If you double click with the left mouse button anywhere on
the white space in the right panel, all folder objects will be selected.
Searching
 |
What is the difference between the two search buttons? |
With the "Go" button you can perform a single search operation
in the current folder and all its subfolders. If, after the search,
you select another folder, the search result will be discarded.
The second search button works like a filter. While this button
is pressed, the right panel shows only the items containing the
search string in any selected folder and its subfolders.
Reports
 |
How can I make a report from the favorites located in different folders? |
You should copy all favorites to a temporary folder, then select
them and click the "View selected favorites" button. The report
will be displayed in the right panel. The report can be viewed,
printed, or opened as an HTML-page in a separate Microsoft Internet
Explorer window.
Security
 |
When I went to run bookmark manager myFavorites, then Norton AntiVirus
reported a detection of "Malicious script". Is it really dangerous
for my PC? |
Norton AntiVirus used to mis-interpret one of myFavorites files
as 'malicious script', which certainly never was the case. Please
download the latest version of myFavorites, where this problem has
already been solved. With an earlier version of myFavorites, select
the "authorize this script" option in the warning window
so that the Norton AntiVirus doesn't have any trouble with myFavorites.
